We recently shared that we would be delaying the release of WooCommerce 8.8 in order to perform the migration from woo.com
to woocommerce.com
. As you may be aware, Woo has been navigating through challenges following the March 2024 Google Search algorithm update. This update had a significant impact on our organic traffic, particularly after our domain change from woocommerce.com
to woo.com
.
In response to these challenges, and after careful consideration and analysis, we have decided to revert our default domain name back to woocommerce.com
. This means that the developer portal that was previously accessible at developer.woo.com
is now available at developer.woocommerce.com
.
This transition took place on Tuesday, April 9, from 08:00 to 11:00 UTC.
Who does this affect?
If you have any references to the old domain in your marketing materials, documentation, or code, you should update those according to point to woocommerce.com
or developer.woocommerce
accordingly.
Why the reversion?
The March 2024 Google search algorithm update had an immediate and significant impact on our traffic levels. Despite our efforts to understand the changes and optimize accordingly, it became clear that the domain change from woocommerce.com
to woo.com
was a contributing factor to the decline in organic traffic.
Reverting to woocommerce.com
is part of our strategy to mitigate these challenges and return to steady traffic. We are confident that this change will help us regain our footing and improve the overall developer experience.
