Development of the Purple theme has moved from woocommerce/woo-themes to the WooCommerce monorepo. We’re retiring the separate repository and bringing theme development closer to the WooCommerce blocks it builds on.
Purple is the first theme in the monorepo’s new themes/ directory.
Why make this change?
Keeping themes alongside WooCommerce makes it easier for contributors and AI coding tools to understand how templates and patterns use WooCommerce blocks.
Shared tooling reduces maintenance across repositories, keeping dependencies, development environments, and validation checks on the toolchain we already maintain.
What changes for contributors?
Please use the WooCommerce monorepo for new Purple contributions:
- Source code and pull requests: work in
themes/purple/. - Bugs and feedback: use the Theme feedback or bug report form.
- Development setup: follow the shared theme CLI guide.
Purple continues as a standalone WordPress theme, with releases independent of WooCommerce Core. The repository move requires no changes to existing Purple installations and will have no impact on WooCommerce as a plugin.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to Purple so far. We welcome your feedback and contributions in its new home!
