FAQ: Joining the WooCommerce Marketplace

Last month, we hosted our October Developer Office Hours dedicated to learning more about joining our WooCommerce Marketplace. We had great insights from the folks who run the WooCommerce Marketplace.

Q: What kind of plugins are Marketplace folks interested in seeing right now?

A: The WooCommerce Marketplace is interested in various types of products. The team is very interested in growing the inventory of block themes, and SaaS products. There is a priority for proven products with merchant traction and those that address broader merchant needs rather than narrow functionality. Compatibility with core features like HPOS and Cart and Checkout Blocks is essential.

Q: Are there any specific categories or industries that developers can focus on for themes?

A: At this moment, valuable focus areas for new themes include industries like Clothing and Fashion, Health and Beauty, Electronics/Gadgets, Bookings/Accommodation, Restaurants (Booking a table), or Subscription-based services.

Checkout our Theme Developer Handbook to get started.

Q: What is the process for applying to the Marketplace?

A: To apply to the Marketplace, you can follow these steps:

  1. Use the Getting Started guide to join the Woo Marketplace and sign up for a Vendor account.
  2. Once you have a Vendor account, you’ll gain access to the Vendor Dashboard, which provides insights into your presence on the Woo Marketplace.
  3. You can submit your product through the Vendor Dashboard when you’re ready by clicking on the Submit Product link on the Vendor Dashboard side panel.

Q: Can anyone sign up for a Vendor Account?

A: Yes, anyone can sign up for a Vendor Account.

Q: How can I check the status of my application to the WooCommerce Marketplace, and what are the general timelines for decisions?

A: To check the status of your application, you can directly view it within your vendor dashboard. Typically, you can expect a decision within 30 days from the point of submission, although the timeline may vary based on the backlog. The team is actively working to optimize the process and reduce review turnaround times.

Q: What if my product is not an immediate fit for the Marketplace?

A: The Marketplace team appreciates work from the community and interest, even if your product may not be an immediate fit for the Marketplace. Your contributions are welcomed and valued.
