The recent restructuring at Automattic has had some impact on our release flows. To create space for ensuring stable and reliable releases, we are making the following adjustments to the WooCommerce release schedule:
Key updates to the release cycle
- Initially scheduled for Monday, April 7th, 2025, the WooCommerce 9.8 version is technically available on WordPress.org without the stable tag. We’ve decided to postpone the stable tag update to Wednesday, April 9th, 2025, pending the results of our internal testing of an upcoming 9.8.1 stable version.
- WooCommerce 9.9 will be delayed by approximately one month to allow teams more time to focus on quality and stability. We will share tentative dates below.
Adjusted release schedule (tentative)
Please note that these dates are subject to change. We will keep the WooCommerce Release Calendar up to date with any modifications.
Release moment | Previous Date | New Date |
9.8 (9.8.1) Release | April 07 | April 09 |
Feature Freeze & Beta for 9.9 | April 14 | May 12 (tentative) |
9.9 RC 1 | April 28 | May 26 (tentative) |
9.9 Release | May 05 | June 02 (tentative) |
Reason for 9.8 delay
In the initial deployment of WooCommerce 9.8, we’ve uncovered a rare situation where the Store API could trigger a fatal error in a user’s cart. We know that the integrity of the checkout experience is absolutely critical, so the team is currently testing a fix.
Next steps & monitoring
We will check back in on the fix status of WooCommerce 9.8 on April 9, 2025 12pm UTC. As always, we’ll keep you informed of any developments through this blog. Development of WooCommerce 9.9 will continue over the following weeks, with a target beta of May 12, 2025.
Additionally, we encourage developers and the broader WooCommerce community to report any issues you spot in the release on GitHub.
As the release schedule evolves, we will provide updates both through this blog and on the WooCommerce Release Calendar. Stay tuned for the latest information.
Thank you for your continued support in improving WooCommerce.
